Roundabout Safety

Compared to other types of intersections, roundabouts have demonstrated improved safety benefits. Converting a traditional intersection to a roundabout led on average to a 35% drop in crashes and a 76% drop in fatal or serious injury crashes.*

Roundabout design also reduces the number of conflict points at an intersection. The conflict points at a roundabout are typically side impact which result in less severe crashes. With roundabouts, head-on and high-speed right angle collisions are virtually eliminated.
